2008 Highlights
February 2008 – Reno
For a second year in a row, Herb coached the Our Lady of the Snows CYO 6th grade girls basketball team. The team completed their season by winning the Championship Game against the Little Flower Colts. The game was played before a standing room only crowd and was considered one of the best games in the CYO Tournament. The girls received gold medals for the first place championship win.
The team consisted of the following players: Hannah Santos, Sasha Deming, Trisha Ven Every, Natalie Nash, Carly Farthing, Nicole Krmpotic, Erin O’Loughlin and Kayla Sisson. Manogue students Joey Santos, Jarred Santos, Le Roy Hutchinson and Derrick Sanchez helped throughout the season.
March 1, 2008 – Reno, Nevada
THE NBA IS COMING TO RENO!!! Herb Santos was excited to take part in the announcement that the NBA is coming to Reno. Herb is one of the local minority interest owners in the new expansion NBA D-League Reno team.
Joining Herb at the press conference was NBA D-League Commissioner Dan Reed, Majority Owner Southwest Basketball, President David Khan and Fat Lever from the Sacramento Kings.
The team will start in the 2008-2009 season and will play a total of 50 games, 24 of which will be played at the Reno Events Center. Herb is excited that professional basketball will be coming to Reno and will offer an affordable family experience.
November 2008 – Reno, Nevada
The Reno Bighorns start off the 2008-2009 season with a pre-season win in Sacramento at Arco Arena before a Kings game against the Albuquerque T-Birds.
A group of 11 individuals joined Herb as Founding Owners of the NBA DLeague Reno team. The team is coached by NBA veteran player Jay Humphries. Ten players were drafted and include Kansas All Star Russell Robinson, LSU standout Antonio Meeking and former University of Nevada players Gary Hill Thomas and Kyle Shylo.
