2010 Highlights

February 2010 - Reno

February proved to be a busy month for Herb.  Herb helped coach the Our Lady of Snows, 8th Grade Boy Basketball team to a 3rd Place Finish.  The highlight of the season for Herb however was the fact that his daughter, Hannah, played on the boys team.  Hannah was selected by the opposing coaches as one of the All League Players.  With her team looking on, Catholic Youth Organization Representative, Skip Luckadoo, presents  Hannah with the CYO All League Player trophy.  This is the first time in the history of the CYO organization that a young lady has played on a boys team and was selected to the All-League Team.  Last year when she was in 7th grade, Hannah played on the 8th Grade Girls team and also was selected for the All League Selection for the 8th Grade Girls.  Hannah

On top of her accomplishments on the boys team, Hannah also won the local, regional, Northern Nevada and Nevada State Championship for 14 year old girls, Knights of Columbus, Free Throw Shooting Contest.

Herb's son Jarred , a Junior at Bishop Manogue High School, was also busy as he received his Varsity Letter for the third year in Wrestling.   Jarred received the "Coaches Award."  Coach Sellars provided the following narrative as to what type of athlete receives this award:

Coach Bo Sellers

This is the definition that my dad used all the years that he was a football coach and wrestling coach and it reads:

To the wrestler who exemplifies the following qualitites: ability, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and character.

This wrestler, in the eyes of the coaches, makes coaching a true pleasure.

This is the wrestler who can accept his own mistakes, strive all the time to improve his ability and always thinks of the team rather than himself.

This is the type of wrestler that inspires coaches to give 100% and return year after year no matter how tough the situation may be.

This wrestler contributed more of himself to the team than he did to himself.

The 2009 - 2010

Bishop Manogue High School

Varsity Wrestling Coaches Award

goes to

JARRED SANTOS

When Jarred is not wrestling, he is working out with the Nevada Collegiate Boxing Team.   Jarred plans on becoming a member of the Boxing Team when he completes his high school studies.

Finally, Herb's oldest son, Joey, a freshman at the University of Nevada, began assistant coaching with his former high school basketball coach, Duke Howard, at Galena High School.  Joey has been working with kids and helping their development.  Joey has given private lessons, worked basketball camps and has even assisted NBA Basketball player Ramon Sessions with his local basketball camp for kids.

Joey is seen here with Ramon and former Harlem Globetrotter  and Nevada player Ethan O'Bryant, after Ramon's camp this past summer.
